If you’re after a broadband service that actually provides somewhere near the speeds that they say they do, then Virgin Media could be the one for you. According to Ofcom, their fibre optic broadband is twice as fast as BT, Sky, and Talk Talk’s comparable packages, even when there are lots of people online.

The main problem with Virgin Media is that their service is only available where VirginMedia’s fibre optic cable has been installed. If you’re not in one of these areas, you’ll have to get broadband from the likes of Sky, BT, or TalkTalk. Broadband speed from these alternatove companies is dependent on the distance you are from the telephone exchange, and even the settings on your router and internet browser.

VirginMedia provide fibre optic broadband from £15 a month for the first three months, and then its £20 after that.
